Poverty

by UNITED WAY OF CALGARY AND AREA

One in 10 Calgarians live in poverty, worrying about their next meal, their rent, or their children’s future, and these worries follow them around day-after-day, impacting their mental health and well-being. United Way works with local community experts to connect people to vital supports and services that help improve their financial, social, and personal assets. By supporting people to meet their short-term basic needs like food and shelter, we help them stabilize their income through employment or by accessing financial empowerment services and supports—a critical step in decreasing their risk of slipping back into poverty.
